IPB Hasilkan 6.130 Dokter Hewan

JAKARTA (IndependensI.com) – Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) telah meluluskan 6.130 dokter hewan sejak Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan (FKH) berdiri pada 1920.

“Lulusan dokter hewan saat ini tidak lagi ada jeda masa tunggu tiga bulan, belum diwisuda pun lulusan tidak sedikit yang sudah langsung bekerja,” kata Dekan FKH IPB Prof Srihadi Agung Priyono, seperti dikutip kantor berita Antara, Jumat (28/7/2017).

Ia mengatakan, dua hari yang lalu sebanyak 47 lulusan FKH IPB diwisuda bersama 691 mahasiswa IPB lainnya. Dari 47 lulusan tersebut, sekitar 30 orang lulusan FKH IPB sudah bekerja, 20 orang di antaranya bekerja di sektor perunggasan dan beberapa orang menjadi PNS.

Menurutnya, dokter hewan lulusan IPB sedang menghadapi ujian nasional kompetensi dokter hewan. Diharapkan para lulusan mendapat nilai yang terbaik.

“Bekal yang diterima para dokter hewan lulusan baru sudah mencukupi dan softskillnya telah diasah,” kata Srihadi.

Ia menambahkan, Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan merupakan fakultas tertua di IPB setelah Fakultas Pertanian.

Wakil Rektor Bidang Akademik dan Kemahasiswa IPB, Prof Yonny Koesmaryono mengatakan, tantangan yang harus siap dihadapi oleh para dokter hewan, terutama pada bidang kesehatan masyarakat veteriner.

Menurutnya, peningkatan jumlah penduduk akan berdampak juga pada peningkatan jumlah konsumsi, termasuk protein dari hewan. Selain itu, kerusakan lingkungan yang disebabkan oleh pengalihfungsian lahan, limbah rumah tangga dan industri, serta bencana alam juga menjadi faktor kerentanan munculnya penyakit.

Menurut Yonny, saat ini dunia sedang mengalami peningkatan ancaman penyakit menular baru atau dikenal dengar “emerging infectious diseases” (EID) dimana 70 persen bersifat zoonosis atau menular dari hewan ke manusia.

“Wabah dari EID akan menimbulkan dampak multiaspek serta banyak korban jiwa akibat ketidaksiapan sistem untuk bersinergi,” katanya.

Untuk itu, lanjutnya, organisasi kesehatan dunia atau WHO memperkenalkan konsep “one health”, yang kemudian akan diadopsi bersama di Indonesia melalui Kementerian Koordinator Pembangunan Manusia dan Kebudayaan RI.

Ia mengatakan, konsep “one health” pada dasarnya adalah strategi di seluruh dunia untuk memperluas kolaborasi interdisipliner dan komunikasi dalam semua aspek pelayanan kesehatan bagi manusia, hewan dan lingkungan.

“Ini adalah peluang besar bagi para dokter hewan baru dan masyarakat veteriner Indonesia secara umum,” katanya.

Yonny mengimbau para dokter hewan lulusan IPB harus mampu menunjukkan peranya dalam penyediaan pangan asal hewan yang aman, sehat, utuh, dan halal (ASUH), serta mampu mengantisipasi berbagai penyakit hewan yang mungkin dapat menurunkan produksi maupun reproduksi ternak, dan penyakit-penyakit yang dapat ditularkan dari hewan ke manusia (zoonosis).

Ia menambahkan, para dokter hewan juga harus mampu memberikan pelayanan kesehatan hewan klinik, pencegahan penyakit serta penyediaan obat-obatan medis.

“Peran dokter hewan penting melakukan berbagai upaya perlindungan kesehatan masyarakat, terutama pengawasan terhadap produk hewan yang akan dipasarkan,” kata Yonny.
